[perl #134911] cpan autoconfig

Is something messed up with cpan autoconfig?
I'm getting an error letting cpan autoconfig on a new server with error:
Invalid host name on line 36 at /usr/share/perl5/CPAN/FirstTime.pm line 
1855.
This is during the section of the first cpan run where I'm asked:
Would you like me to automatically choose some CPAN mirror
sites for you? (This means connecting to the Internet) [yes]

I believe the following URL might be getting parsed:
http://www.cpan.org/MIRRORED.BY
as the "invalid host name" is indicated as being:
"Global CPAN CDN:"
which is, in fact, line 36 of http://www.cpan.org/MIRRORED.BY
