I proposed an implementation of this as a milestone not because it's so useful, but because it's especially hairy, and we'll need to support it at least in backwards-compatibility mode. To bring this all back around, this thread started with a working group proposal. Are there any more comments on whether this is a worthwhile and well-defined working group?
