Custom built on-the-fly or custom compiled?  If the latter, then tell
me why oraperl and sybperl and ingperl, etc. aren't still around.

I like Abigail's idea of a small perl that is smart enough to load the
proper modules as needed.  This would make your generic and
application specific perls the same perl  (A Good Thing IMHO)
